The Alvis House Community Reentry Center provides employment education, casemanagement, and GED classes. The job readiness training/Transition Education Program (TEP) is a statewide video conferencing program provided to individuals while they are incarcerated. TEP is more than an employment readiness program – it is designed to put participants on the path to a long-term career.
Transitional Education Program (TEP):
TEP is a comprehensive collaborative that provides tools for individuals who are nearing release from a correctional facility that will help them successfully return to their homes and families. The TEP model focuses on the use of technology to educate adult men and women about utilizing pro-social skills and other skills to needed to transition to the community. The TEP concept was developed by Community Connection for Ohio Offenders in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and the Ohio Central School System. (Community Connection became a part of Alvis House in 2008.) The TEP program is unique, as it incorporates the use of assisted videoconferencing, web-based research design, and individualized CD-based instruction to provide transitional and life skills curricula coupled with post-release case management and evaluation.
Reentry Court is a collaboration between the judicial system, Alvis House case managers and the individual under supervision. Case managers provide support during reeentry and work with the clients to refer them to programs and services to address the client’s identified needs. Clients make monthly appearances before the judge, who provides regular feedback and takes an interest in their success.
The Ohio Benefit Bank (OBB) is an Internet website and counselor-based service that connects low and moderate income Ohioans with access to work support such as tax credits and public benefits.
This program provides individuals with the opportunity participate in classroom instruction, study and work with professional staff toward the goal of earning a High School Equivalency Diploma, which is known as General Education Development Diploma (GED).
Auglaize County Transition Program:
The ACT program primarily serves as a link between offenders and community resources that are important in aiding successful reentry. Services such as employment placement, drug and alcohol treatment, mental health counseling, and educational support (e.g., GED programs) are available to ACT participants while a case manager provides individualized, face-to-face monitoring and intervention for offenders. Case managers also serve in an advocacy role and are responsible for evaluating offender progress.
